Fort Worth Area Secular Homeschoolers (FWASH) is a homeschool community and social group based in North Texas. We are an inclusive, welcoming space for families of all tolerant backgrounds and beliefs, united by a commitment to supporting one another and building community. We connect through weekly gatherings, field trips, park days, hikes, and other activities throughout the Fort Worth area, including Keller, Saginaw, North Richland Hills, Grapevine, Haltom City, and beyond.

FAQs
What is secular homeschooling?
Secular homeschooling is not based on any particular religion or religious values. FWASH welcomes all families, regardless of faith, and does not allow events or resources that promote religious instruction or worship.
Is FWASH a homeschool co-op, micro-school, drop-off program, etc?
FWASH isn’t a co-op, micro-school, or drop-off program. We’re a community-led group where families come together for member-hosted events, activities, field trips, and more around North Texas. We’re not a formal academic program or business and do not offer classes or curriculum. While some members may organize educational events, our main goal is to build community and create social connections for Fort Worth homeschooling families. Think of FWASH as more of a social club. We are not a 501(c)(3).
How do I join FWASH and is there a cost?
We host all events and community activities in our Facebook group. To join, please answer all questions and review our community guidelines and rules.
There are never any fees or cost to be a part of our community. Most of our events are free and held in public spaces like parks or libraries to keep participation accessible. Occasionally, some events may have a small cost if they take place at a location with an entry fee (like a roller rink) or as a courtesy to a business if we are using their space (such as buying a coffee when in a coffee shop).
Are you LGBTQIA+ friendly?
Absolutely! FWASH is an open and welcoming community for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression. We celebrate diversity and strive to make our group a safe, supportive space for all homeschool families. We do not tolerate bullying or hate speech of any kind.
Do you have any neurodivergent members or accomodate people and kids with disabilities?
Yes — many of our members started homeschooling when they found traditional schools didn’t meet their needs. FWASH welcomes families of all learning styles and abilities, and we strive to create an inclusive, understanding community.
We strive to accommodate all families and children with disabilities. Reach out to us — we’re happy to suggest events or resources that fit your needs.
What area are you based in? Where are events usually located?
FWASH is made up of families from across the greater Fort Worth and North Texas area including Keller, Watauga, Saginaw, Haltom City, North Richland Hills, Roanoke, Grapevine, Southlake, Hurst, Bedford, and more. Most of our events take place in public spaces such as parks, libraries, coffee shops, and other accessible community spots.
While events in private homes aren’t prohibited, we find that public spaces are usually more comfortable and welcoming for everyone.
What kind of events or classes do you have? Do I have to host events to be a member?
We have regular weekly events like park days, craft club, board game gatherings, Dungeons & Dragons events, and more. We do not host classes, although some members may host educational related events. Occasionally members will organize a field trip.
For the safety of our community specific event details and locations can only be seen once you have been approved to join the Facebook group.
No one is required to host an event, although we definitely encourage it and will help if you decide to do so!
How do I see and attend events?
To keep our community safe, we share event details and locations only with approved Facebook group members. Once you join, you can see events in the group, RSVP, ask questions, and connect with other members.
Is this a drop-off group? Is it okay if my child hangs out by themselves?
No — we require a parent or guardian to stay with their child during events.
How old does my child need to be?
We ask that children be at least “school age” to join FWASH. Our community includes families with children ranging from about 6 years old to teenagers. Some events may be geared toward specific age groups, and members occasionally host age-specific activities.
What about parents? We like friends too!
FWASH is a community at heart, both for the kids and parents. Come hang out and get to know people! We occasionally host family-friendly parent oriented events as well.
Do you provide support for families just getting started with homeschooling?
FWASH is a community of families with many different approaches to homeschooling and educational philosophies. While we don’t endorse or provide specific curricula, our events and online community are a great place to ask questions, share experiences, and learn from others who have been on the journey.
Who runs or operates FWASH?
FWASH is a member-led community. While we do have admins who manage the Facebook group and guide big-picture initiatives (like this website), FWASH depends on all members to create and host events.
We’re in online public school. Can we join you?
Yes! FWASH welcomes all homeschooling families, including those in online or virtual public schools as long as they abide by our guidelines.
